At Largo da Maternidade Júlio Dinis, a key stage within the Miguel Bombarda Cultural Quarter, in a unique moment of closeness, the public is invited to follow the trajectory of the Clube do Choro do Porto.
Inspired by the tradition of Brazilian choro — a musical genre born in the 19th century in Rio de Janeiro, considered one of the first urban musical expressions in Brazil, emerging from the encounter between European music and Afro-Brazilian rhythms — and marked by improvisation, virtuosity, and a strong spirit of gathering, the collective returns, two years later, to the square where it all began.
In the format of a roda de choro, faithful to the essence of this musical style, they present a repertoire that blends classics — such as Chiquinha Gonzaga and Ernesto Nazareth — with new interpretations, in an atmosphere of intimacy and celebration.
Since its creation in 2018, the Clube do Choro do Porto has promoted exchange between Brazilian and Portuguese musicians, contributing to the enrichment and dissemination of choro in both countries. A project that took its first steps at the Porto Simultaneous Openings, it now establishes itself in the country’s main venues, while keeping alive the spontaneous and communal energy at the heart of choro.
