The ceiling.
That which never falls.
Constructed, falling, collapsed. A roof in 3 stages.
The three lives of a roof.
The roof above the roof.
The fragility of the most basic element of a human shelter reminds us immediately of the natural environment where we live. Artificial technological progress contradicted the environmental human evolution over millions of years. The sky meant something to us before. In its lightness and heat that required our rest. In its mysterious darkness that gave rise to imagination. In the water clouds that gave us material to grow.
A roof is the new sky outside of nature. A leaky roof is environmental evolution. Each infiltrating drop is like a star in the infinite constellations. If we surrender to fragility, if we make the sky the roof, we can again imagine a better shelter.
The exhibition proposes to both figuratively and metaphorically remove the roof from a space. The works will connect the concrete floor and the vapour clouds again in a constructive frenzy.
