Between the cold that settles over the city like a cloak, and the deep black of a sky against which the stars seem to shine a little brighter, the conditions are right for concerts by large congregations - on stage, and in the audience.
We've divided the concerts in the week leading up to Christmas into two main groups: choral concerts and orchestral concerts.
In a recent article we spoke to three of the city's choirs, two of which are performing this week: The University Choir and the Cathedral Choir.
Along the way, you'll have the chance to see Gospel choral concerts, and a special note for the big concert on the 22nd, the performances by the Porto Historical Centre Choir, the Portuense Choir Group, the Carolina Michaëlis School Group Big Band Youth Orchestra and Mini Vozes D'Amare.

Outdoors, in churches, in large concert halls or in the halls of centuries-old associations, the concerts with musical accompaniment range from an intimate violin to large symphony orchestras, playing timeless pieces - and forever linked to Christmas.
At the Clube dos Fenianos Portuenses, an association we visited recently, there will be a themed concert where various versions of the theme ‘Ave Maria’ will be played, from Schubert to Saint-Saens.
