Nicknamed the ‘Duke Electronington’ of Dutch music scene, composer, conductor and arranger Tyn Wybenga samples the solo voices of his accompanying band to construct ever-changing sound sculptures, which are then recreated at each concert. Tonight, the ensemble is an octet made up of prominent Portuguese musicians, invested in finding a blend from the recorded samples, combining orchestral cores, live manipulated electronics and improvisation. With influences from varied aesthetics and geographies, Wybenga’s music expands the boundaries of modern jazz and shows that something new is happening in Amsterdam. The first part of the concert will be performed by the Portuguese quartet EGON, whose music also blends jazz with other sounds.
