In contemporary Iran, 22-year-old Maryam has been sentenced to death after accidentally killing her much older husband, Nasser. Under the law, only Mona, Nasser’s daughter, can save her by granting forgiveness. On the night of Yalda, both women are brought onto a popular live television programme inspired by a real Iranian format. Maryam must plead for her life while Mona is pressured to make an irreversible decision in public.
