In “The City and the Maps”, Mazharul “Akash” Hoque, a Bangladeshi delivery rider, navigates Porto using a delivery platform’s digital map. Pedro Figueiredo, an architect and guide, uses old printed maps to question urban history and reveal places beyond the usual tourist routes. They never meet, but their paths reveal a city being reshaped by work, tourism and migration as it prepares for the São João festivities.
The first feature by Alexandra Guimarães and Gonçalo L. Almeida was made with support from Working Class Heroes grant, a partnership between Porto/Post/Doc and Filmaporto – Porto Film Commission, supported by the “la Caixa” Foundation through CaixaForum+. The programme awards an annual grant of €75,000 to develop and produce a new film about Porto.
