The art project O Silêncio tem Som? is running a free listening and field recording workshop, open to anyone interested, with no previous experience or equipment of your own required.
Over six sessions, we will explore the soundscape of the monumental cemeteries of Prado do Repouso and Agramonte through listening, historical context, sound recording and editing.
Session 1: the history of field recording, active listening and creative intention, types of recording devices and microphones.
Sessions 2 and 3: a guided tour led by historian Francisco Queiroz, covering the historical, cultural and artistic context of each cemetery, followed by critical listening to the surrounding environment.
Sessions 4 and 5: recording the soundscape with the help of the sound artists, putting what has been learnt into practice.
Session 6: an introduction to audio editing and processing techniques, and the collective creation of a sound narrative.
Registration: 1 September to 18 October 2026
