This Thursday, September 4, at 6:00 p.m., the exhibition “The Planet Is Dying. And You?” by Manuel Ribeiro will open at Alameda Art Spot (2nd floor of Alameda Shop&Spot). It is an artistic outcry in defense of the environment, where recycled materials gain new life, transforming what would be waste into works of art that awaken awareness while combining beauty with social critique.
The exhibition is based on the premise that “the planet is our only home and there is no plan B”, seeking to raise awareness of the devastating impacts of excessive consumption and reckless disposal. Manuel Ribeiro’s creations blend art, music, and sustainability, creating a space for reflection on consumption habits and the fragile balance of biodiversity.
The warning also extends to marine preservation. Portugal is currently the second country in the world most responsible for shark deaths, a species at risk of extinction. This alarming fact highlights how seemingly trivial human decisions can have irreversible consequences for the planet’s future.
The exhibition’s title itself is a provocation: will we be accomplices in destruction or agents of change?
Through this experience, the audience is invited to pause, reflect, and act. Each piece is a call to rethink habits—from consumption to disposal—and to re-examine our relationship with the ocean that surrounds us. In the end, the message is clear: every individual action counts towards building a more sustainable collective future.
Beyond its artistic and environmental dimensions, the event also carries a strong social component: 20% of the exhibition’s profits will be donated to the association A Casa do Caminho, an institution that shelters and supports children at risk, offering them safety and hope for the future.
The exhibition will remain open until the end of September at Alameda Art Spot.
