Les lettres de mon père
Agnès Limbos (BE)
(National Premiere)
In Les lettres de mon père (Letters from My Father), Agnès Limbos revisits her childhood through the lens of 46 letters written by her father, which form the basis of this powerful work. In 1959, her family moved to the Belgian Congo, where her father ran a training school. A year later, in the wake of Congolese independence, the children were sent back to Belgium, where they lived for a year with their uncle, who was a priest, until their parents returned. Through these letters, Agnès is confronted with memories of abandonment, colonial paternalism, and changing perspectives on her parents. Blending object theatre and historical reflection, the play stages a poignant dialogue between the child she once was and the woman she has become.
Agnès Limbos is a leading figure in object theatre in Europe and, after presenting Troubles in 2020 and Ressacs in 2017, she finally returns to fimp with a beautiful performance that is both autobiographical and revealing of our condition as subjects throughout History.
