Masterclass · HUNTER
Courtney May Robertson (GB / NL)
For: Puppeteers, visual artists, students of performing arts and other fields of study
Based on Courtney May Robertson’s performance HUNTER, this masterclass explores the porous boundary between the living body and inanimate materials. In HUNTER, Robertson appears alongside a life-size replica of herself. Based on the research that underpins this work, participants are invited to enter bodily states that blur the divide between human and object. We will reflect on the way in which memory, the environment, and cultural narratives inform our interactions with physical matter, and on how the construction of empathy towards ‘non-living’ forms can emerge through contact rituals. Participants will co-create imaginary landscapes and new relational possibilities, questioning what it means to be animate, inanimate, human, or ‘other.’ They are invited to bring a representative object of any size or material to the masterclass.
Participants are requested to bring along a meaningful object, of any size and material, to the masterclass.
