Lovers & Lollypops is celebrating its 19th anniversary this year and will be marking the date with a party bringing together some of the house names and special guests. Taking place on 7 July at the Radioclube Agramonte, the event will run from 15:00 to 22:00. Tickets for the anniversary party cost 20 euros and can already be bought at bol.pt.
The line-up proposed for the date includes a special slot for home-grown artists. A return to the stage, in a year of special celebrations, for the power-trio from Barcelona, Killimanjaro. Ten years after the release of Hook, the LP that affirmed the collective's unique language, we welcome them back to the stage for a concert that revisits the disc, now with the new line-up made up of José Roberto Gomes, Joni Dores and Rui Freitas. Through calmer but no less moving landscapes, the duo Arianna Casellas and Kauê take us on a journey through family stories, time and emotions, in a concert with an unmistakable identity and a strong authorial slant, to the sound of rhythms and instruments typical of South America. The label's list of confirmed artists also includes the prolific percussionist João Pais Filipe, in a solo concert that brings us up to date with what he's been up to in recent months.
El Khat, a collective led by Eyal El Wahab - a son of the Yemeni diaspora on a mission to recover his roots - is also on the bill. As stimulating as the plant of the same name, the collective has been the reason for a refreshing journey through the tradition of the traditional music of the region where they live, in a timely urban recovery of a marginalised culture, with strong inspirations in Yemeni folk and pop from the 60s. A living example of the diversity of Kampala's artistic and cultural scene, Somali DJ and producer HIBOTEP creates intense sound narratives that are as haunting as they are liberating, combining trap, hip-hop and house with taraab, gnawaa and other Arabic influences, and from there returning a vibrant sound collage aimed at contemporary dance floors.
The bill for 7 July also includes DJ and activist Saya, with proposals exploring ancestral rhythms, kuduro, experimental Arabic electronica or gqom, and Turbo Jóia's wanderings through the poetic body and the danced word.
