Concerto de Natal Sé
Magnificat de J. D. Zelenka e Christmas Oratório de Gottfried Homilius
Concerto de Natal pelo Coro da Sé

MAGNIFICAT Iin D, ZWV 108 – Jan Dismas ZELENKA

The Magnificat in D major, ZWV 108 is one of a series of psalms and Magnificats that Zelenka
composed for the Vespers services in Dresden. The choir plays a more prominent role in this
Magnificat in D major. Zelenka also emphasised the festive character of the piece, later adding
parts for two trumpets and timpani.

Christmas Oratorio, HoWV I.1 – Gottfried August HOMILIUS

The Christmas Oratorio is the second major vocal work by Homilius to appear in print during his lifetime. With an unusually large instrumental ensemble, Homilius presents the pastoral theme of the shepherds, in a very sophisticated way, much appreciated at that time. Each movement presents a different scenario, distinct from all the other movements. This applies to the pastoral music, with the vision and prism of the shepherds as its motto, as well as to the representation of the angel who announces the Birth of Christ.

These two pieces will possibly be heard for the first time at national concert.
