Pianist Roger Muraro is one of the most acclaimed interpreters of Ravel's music and is returning to Casa da Música to play the Concerto for the Left Hand – a work that won him a prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1986, launching his international career. Fantastic characters come to life in this program, starting with The Sorcerer's Apprentice, created by Paul Dukas from a poem by Goethe, which became world famous in Walt Disney's film Fantasia. Other adventures invade Stravinsky's ballet Petruchka, a story of mischievous puppets, written in Paris but filled with popular Russian melodies. The evening is marked by bridges with traditional roots, which are also found in Ravel's Concerto, a pioneering work in the use of jazz elements.
