A concert that shows how popular roots influence artistic creation and give rise to works that manage to be appealing and sophisticated. Gypsy dances are present in the Dances of Galanta, in which Hungarian Zoltán Kodály revisited his childhood memories. Sibelius composed the suite of symphonic poems Four Legends of Lemminkäinen based on the Finnish epic Kalevala, a mythological poem that explains the creation of the world and of Man. The program is completed with Edvard Grieg's only concerto for piano and orchestra, which also delves into folk roots, in this case those of Norway. Pianist Lukas Sternath will perform this work in a program conducted by Finnish Kristian Sallinen, a young conductor with a rising career who has already performed with great success at the Sala Suggia.
