Book Launch of "The Party" by Eunice S. Sousa
+ Spontaneous Reading Workshop for Children, with the participation of the author
At the third edition of the Simultaneous Openings Reading Club / Atelier 3|3, held in the format of a conversation circle with moments of reading and idea-sharing, and integrated into the Simultaneous Openings Arts Library (BAIS), the session on July 4 will bring to the street the launch of Eunice S. Sousa’s book The Party (A Festa).
The story follows Ema, who has been invited to a party in her grandfather’s former farmland—a place he spent 20 years preparing. Now that the day has finally arrived, where exactly is the party? And where are all the guests?
The programme also includes a spontaneous reading activity for children, attended by the author herself, creating opportunities for children of all ages to express themselves around the theme: Reading is on the Street! Nature is Returning! Inspired by the idea of a landscape in the making, each participant is invited to add illustrated natural elements such as plants, animals, and other living beings, contributing to the creation of a richer and more diverse ecosystem.
Inspired by The Party, the activity explores the concept of rewilding and invites us to observe nature more closely.
Eunice S. Sousa was born on 11 October 1984. She is a biologist with a PhD in science communication for biodiversity and conservation. After several years in research, she devoted her career to science communication at research centres focused on biodiversity and ecosystems. She specialises in autonomous nature exploration strategies and in the use of children's books as tools for connecting with the natural world. She develops activities for all audiences and innovative tools aimed at restoring our relationship with ecosystems. Creativity, hands-on making, and a constant desire to learn have accompanied her throughout her life and shaped her personality.
About Atelier 3|3
Atelier 3|3 is a collective, creative, and multi-faceted project dedicated to alternative publishing. It operates both as a mobile workspace and as a publishing house, created to highlight the diversity of self-published and independent publications. The collective functions as a cultural and recreational association led by Cristina Alves (President), a lower and upper secondary school teacher with postgraduate studies in library management.
Cristina Alves is also the organiser of ZineFest PT, an international event dedicated to fanzines.
Madame Zine is her semi-heteronym, through which she develops multiple self-publishing projects, publications, and news from her own universe—created with her own hands and those of others; wandering, unregistered in any encyclopaedia, gathering scattered notes and images, photographs, nomadic poetry, and the ambition to become many books, a bookseller, and free.
Cristina Alves is actively involved in several cultural spaces located within the Miguel Bombarda Arts District, including the independent bookstore Gato Vadio.
For all ages. No prior knowledge required.
Materials will be provided on the day and at the venue.
Free participation, subject to venue capacity.
