Discussion Circle – Reading, Sharing Ideas and Creative Workshop

The fifth edition of the Inaugurações Simultâneas / Atelier 3|3 Reading Club takes place, as usual, in a discussion-circle format, with moments of reading and the sharing of ideas. As part of the Inaugurações Simultâneas Art Library (BAIS), the session on 14 November brings Caderno de Encargos Sentimentais by Inês Meneses into the public space. Published by independent publisher Contraponto, the book follows an initial self-published edition in 2020. Inês will be joining us, giving us the pleasure of hearing her speak and sharing with her the “emotional obligations” explored in her book, along with our own reflections.

“Many of us write inwardly. Some think outwardly. Perhaps social media is the refuge some people needed. (...) Looking back over the time that has passed, one question arises: was that me? It was. We have to learn to live in harmony with what we feel.”

Inspired by the book, the creative workshop “Read and Accepted: A Zine of Emotional Clauses” will be led by Madame Zine. Just as a terms-of-reference document sets out objectives, deadlines and obligations, participants will fill in the clauses of their own personal zine, using quotations from the book and their own words, selected or written on paper in various colours, with a few stamps and the song that each feeling brings to mind (there is a lot of music woven into the book). Each page becomes a clause, each participant signs their own “read and accepted”, and in the end, all the feelings come together, complete with the proper paperwork.
