Partner Blues brings together different forms of African American social dance developed in close connection with Blues music, where connection, rhythm, improvisation and musical interpretation play a central role.
Led by Edmilson Botelho and Maria Vasquez, these regular beginners' classes offer an introduction to the foundations of partner Blues dances, exploring partner communication, different rhythms and movement qualities, musicality and improvisation.
Beyond learning steps and figures, the classes focus on developing listening and dialogue between music, body and partner, while also creating space to discover the historical roots and cultural context of these dances.
No previous dance experience is required and no partner is needed to join.
An initiative by Associação Bamu Zunta Mon, in Porto.
