BADLANDS and Music on Music are excited to announce their first-ever collaboration with a live performance by Ana Roxanne, happening at Passos Manuel (Porto, Portugal). After playing there in 2023, Roxanne returns to the historical venue in support of her brand-new album, “Poem 1”, released this past May.
Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and currently based in New York City, Ana Roxanne is a composer and vocalist who grew up fascinated by jazz, R&B and classical music. Described as "introverted euphoria" by Resident Advisor and "ecstatic" by Pitchfork, her personal, subtly experimental style has sculpted the meditative, restorative songs featured on both her debut EP “~~~~” and her first full-length, 2020’s “Because of a Flower”, striking a chord with listeners and critics alike. Most recently, Roxanne channeled her heartbreak and grief into “Poem 1", her second album via Kranky and her most unguarded statement to date. A blend of decelerated jazz, minimalism and vocal folk forms that is marked by an awareness of ambient music, the album plays out like catharsis, finding hope in the subtlety, slowness and smoky sadness of its piano themes, vulnerable vocals and dissociated synthesizer drones.
Roxanne will be accompanied by Nico Leibman (Harmony Index) on bass, synth and vocals.
