In partnership with Temporary Residence Ltd. and Swamp Booking, Music on Music is excited to present a listening session celebrating the 25th anniversary of William Basinski’s “The Disintegration Loops”, paired with a screening of “Disintegration Loop 1.1” and followed by a live video interview with Basinski himself, who will join in to discuss the enduring legacy of the album and much more. The free-entry event will be held on September 30th 2026 (9:00pm), at Radioclube Agramonte/Espaço Agra.
Since the turn of this century, perhaps no other modern composition has had a more resonant and healing effect than “The Disintegration Loops”. A classically trained experimental musician and composer who has been working for over 30 years in NYC and California, William Basinski created these deteriorating analog tape loops out of recordings made two decades earlier, which he rediscovered and digitalized only to find that they had decayed to the point where each playback further eroded the tapes. The result is a gradual transformation from melodic symphonies into melancholic silence, unfolding over time in a way that uncannily transforms passing minutes into pensive lifetimes.
Recently remastered and reissued in its entirety as the Arcadia Archive Edition, this event marks the 25th anniversary of the recordings and offers a unique opportunity to experience one of the century's most transcendent works in its fullest context, bringing together the music itself, the footage Basinski shot during the final moments of daylight on 9/11 — the same day he had completed the project – and a chance to hear about it directly from the mastermind who created it.
