Lise de la Salle brings to Porto an appealing repertoire that she knows well: both the Chopin disc and the albums with Liszt’s works that she has recorded throughout her career have earned awards and praise. Contemporaries, pianists and virtuosos living in Paris in the 19th century, these two musicians left an indelible mark on the history of their instrument. From the Hungarian composer, the Sonata in B minor stands out, a work that clearly demonstrates how Liszt expanded the possibilities of the piano, demanding from ten fingers what had been unthinkable until then. Between maximum force and the purest delicacy, the sonata is played in one breath. From Chopin’s legacy, the French pianist has chosen two ballads for this programme. These are profound, lyrical and complex works, representing demanding challenges for any performer and a delight for all audiences.
