[Batalha] - Uma Voz na Noite + Pillow Talk

Uma Voz Na Noite, by Solveig Nordlund

An elderly woman (Isabel de Castro) is awakened in the middle of the night by a ringing phone. On the other end is a stranger who fights his insomnia by dialing random numbers. In this short film, the telephone becomes more than just a source of surprise and intimacy—it serves as a conduit through which brief, unexpected connections form between distant lives and realities. Here, a phone call—and its duration—shapes both the structure and narrative of a film.

Pillow Talk, by Michael Gordon

The rapid expansion of telephone services in the U.S., particularly after World War II, gave rise to "party lines"—shared telephone circuits used by two or more subscribers. While cheaper than private lines, they came at a price: no privacy. This is the backdrop for the romantic comedy Pillow Talk, which brings together a no-nonsense interior decorator (Doris Day) and a charming Broadway composer (Rock Hudson). The film won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and reshaped both stars’ public personas—turning Day into a sex symbol and giving Hudson his first major comedic role.
