We invite you to spend an afternoon discovering two ways of experiencing Blues Dance: Solo Blues and Partner Blues, with Edmilson Botelho.
Blues is a musical genre that developed from spiritual music and work songs sung on cotton, sugar cane, rice, and tobacco plantations during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Blues dance emerged alongside the music and can be danced both solo and with a partner, always valuing individual expression, communication, and each dancer's creativity. As Blues music evolved across different regions of the United States, different dance styles also emerged, all connected by a shared aesthetic: groove, pulse, improvisation, musicality, and a deep connection between the body and the music.
Solo Blues
This workshop focuses on exploring the technical foundations of Solo Blues, body coordination, groove, and different movement variations. Together, we'll discover how the same movement can take on different qualities, rhythms, and dynamics, becoming a powerful tool for expression and musical interpretation.
Partner Blues
In this workshop, we will explore one of the fundamental concepts of Blues Dance: Sway.
Using this concept as our starting point, we will work with principles such as grounding, an athletic posture, weight transfer, and the natural movement of the torso, shoulders, and hips, understanding how these elements come together to create a dance that is comfortable, fluid, and expressive.
Let's join hands and make it happen.
