Study Trip to Greece:
Drawing on the creative process behind Oedipus Rex by SillySeason, director Ricardo Teixeira proposes an investigation that places the body, the performer’s presence and the scenic material at the centre of the theatrical event.
Starting from the world of Oedipus Rex, we will explore mechanisms of physical composition, repetition, dissociation and spatial relationships. Between the tragic and the absurd, the intimate and the collective, the aim is to develop a practice in which meaning emerges from the body before taking shape in words.
P.S. You don’t need to have studied Greek or know exactly where Thebes is.
Ricardo Teixeira Biography:
His work moves between theatre, cinema and performance.
He founded the SillySeason collective in 2012, where he works as an actor, director and artistic director. He trained at Balleteatro Escola Profissional and holds a degree in Acting from the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema.
He has collaborated as an actor on national and international projects with various directors and played the leading role in the film Al Berto, directed by Vicente Alves do Ó. He co-directed two short films: Frei Luís de Sousa (winner of Best Portuguese Short Film at the 2014 Queer Lisboa International Film Festival) and Antígona (2015).
He is a regular lecturer at Balleteatro Contemporâneo do Porto, where he teaches Acting, and is also a guest lecturer at Oficinas de Teatro Lisboa. He has served as a guest jury member at theatre and film festivals in Portugal, including FATAL – Festival Anual de Teatro Académico de Lisboa, IndieLisboa – International Film Festival and Queer Lisboa – International Queer Film Festival.
