Synopsis: *Persepolis* is the story of a girl growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution—an autobiographical tale by Marjane Satrapi that originated as a four-volume graphic novel series. Through the eyes of the fearless nine-year-old Marjane, we witness a people's hope shattered as fundamentalists seize power, forcing women to wear the veil and imprisoning thousands. Intelligent and outgoing, Marjane manages—despite the restrictions—to discover punk culture, ABBA, and Iron Maiden.
- Jury Prize — 2007 Cannes Film Festival
- Nominated: Best Animated Feature — 2008 Oscars
