In "Pêndulo" [Pendulum], Marco Martins works with a group of female carers and domestic workers whose lives are ruled by a pendulum movement: between the outskirts and the centre of the capital (Lisbon), between their home and those of the ones who employ them, and between their country of origin and their host country, Portugal. "Pêndulo" focuses on the nature of domestic work to discuss family relations, the clash between different livelihoods, backgrounds, expectations, dreams and everyday lives. This creation, in line with the scenic work developed by Marco Martins in the last few years, is based on the participation and commitment of a group of non-professional performers, and it makes room for the stories of those who are directly confronted with the implicit precariousness of the world’s economic and social future. — ARENA ENSEMBLE
