+ INFO
Orsolya Karman is a contemporary jewellery artist whose practice is deeply rooted in graphic design, visual systems, and material experimentation. Her work investigates jewellery as a spatial extension of graphic thinking, positioned at the intersection of art and design, where structure, movement, and conceptual clarity are equally essential.
She holds a Master of Arts in Visual Communication from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME), Budapest. Her professional background as an art director significantly informs her artistic language, resulting in a distinctive synthesis of graphic precision and sculptural construction. With over two decades of experience in visual communication, Karman approaches jewellery through composition, reduction, and visual logic. Working primarily with laser-cut techniques and architecturally inspired geometric structures, she combines technological processes with meticulous handcraft. Each piece evolves through research, iteration, and formal refinement, translating two-dimensional graphic systems into spatial constructions activated in relation to the body. By transforming line, layering, and compositional rhythm into three-dimensional form, Karman redefines jewellery as a medium of perception and personal expression. The resulting works are sculptural yet wearable, grounded in graphic clarity and material precision. Produced in limited series, her work reflects an ongoing exploration of contemporary jewellery as an intimate, expressive, and concept-driven art form.
Orsolya Karman lives and works in Vienna, Austria.
Phenomena | 2026
Phenomena is a series of brooches exploring optical perception through layered graphic structures. By combining precise laser-cut elements, transparent layers, and graphic materials, the works generate shifting visual effects that change with movement, light, and viewing angle. Rather than functioning as static ornaments, the pieces operate as small perceptual experiments, translating graphic systems and interference patterns into wearable spatial constructions that activate in relation to the body.
New Dimension | 2024-25
New Dimension is a collaborative jewellery collection developed in dialogue with visual artist Käthe Schönle. The project translates Schönle’s layered screen-printed illustrations into three-dimensional jewellery structures, exploring how graphic language can evolve from the two-dimensional plane into spatial, wearable form.
Through an intensive, dialogue-based process, the prints’ colour systems, compositional rhythm, and overlapping structures are reinterpreted as sculptural jewellery objects. The works retain the visual logic of the original graphics while gaining a tactile and playful dimension through the layering techniques inherent to screen-printing. By transforming illustration into spatial construction, the collection investigates the intersection of visual art and contemporary jewellery, where graphic composition, colour interaction, and material structure converge in wearable sculptural forms.
