Lehmann Projects presents “Open Navigator”, the first exhibition by Martín Bruce (b. 1988, Santiago, Chile) at the gallery.
Marked by itinerancy and cultural displacement, Martín Bruce's artistic practice intersects painting, installation, video, and music production. His work stems from a visual investigation that explores the digital aesthetics of internet culture and video games, establishing a direct dialogue with forms and references from nature.
With experience in visual arts education in both Chile and Portugal, his recent exhibition history includes the solo shows Test Drive (Teodoro W, Porto, 2025), Lunas (Espaço Ócio, Porto, 2024), and Um Gato, Um Pato, Duas Cobras e uma Mariposa (Atelier Logicofobista, Porto, 2023), as well as the group exhibition Open Studio (Campanice, Porto, 2023).
In parallel, he researches new models of digital circulation and exhibition through the regular representation of his work on Web3 platforms, having participated in international projects and exhibitions such as Art on Tezos in Berlin, RGBMTL in Montreal, Art Basel in Miami and Verse, among others.
"Titled Open Navigator, the exhibition brings together paintings, tapestries, and installations that evoke the early internet and a spirit of exploration.
In its early days, Netscape Navigator served as the gateway to the web, a largely uncharted territory waiting to be explored. Users moved from link to link, followed references, took detours, and stumbled upon the unexpected. Navigation meant exploring an open space, a practice reminiscent of the explorers, navigators, and cartographers of the early modern era.
In Martín Bruce’s paintings, curtains and browser windows open views onto desktop backgrounds and computer-generated 3D worlds. Like early internet users and early modern cartographers, Bruce moves through vast visual worlds in his paintings and tapestries, forging ever new connections."
