This is a group singing workshop where we aim to share repertoire of traditional songs, not only from various regions of Portugal, but also from other parts of the Iberian Peninsula. We also seek to bring forward the organic nature of folk music: music as a vehicle for bringing people together, as a form of release, as resistance, and as something that generates a sense of belonging, sharing, and community.
The session includes body and vocal warm-ups, group dynamics exercises, the sharing of sung repertoire and its sociocultural context, and an exploration of vocal polyphony. This workshop is open to anyone who wishes to take part, regardless of previous knowledge or experience.
