The second-year students of ESMAE’s Theater Degree course will present *The Miser* from May 20 to 23 in the garden of the Porto Polytechnic Cultural Center.
Classical theater leaves the auditoriums and moves outdoors. From May 20 through May 23, the public is invited to enter the world of Harpagon, Molière’s iconic character who loves his gold above all else—including his own children.
“The Miser” is a five-act comedy by Molière that exposes the moral bankruptcy of humanity, which inevitably leads to the triumph of capital over integrity. The central figure is Harpagon, a father who views his children as business opportunities, assuming that the desires and wishes of those he encounters are nothing more than coincidences, collateral damage to his routine—a pursuit fueled by his greed.
In this show, every laugh is an assault on avarice.
