"Suldanceria is a project created by Teresa Corrado, an Italian from southern Italy, currently based in Lisbon. A researcher, musician, and passionate about traditional music, Teresa brings to this project all her experience gained in popular festivals, dancing and listening to the life stories of a rural world that is slowly disappearing, in addition to her direct experiences in independent research.
Aware of the invaluable worth of this culture, Teresa dedicates herself to its dissemination, respecting its codes and rituals. Suldanceria is not just a dance project, but also a journey to understand the historical and musical context in which these dances arise and still survive, especially in religious festivals, which are nothing more than ancient pagan rituals dedicated to the gods and to propitiatory moments linked to the fertility of the land, the harvest, and the cycle of life and the seasons.
During its workshops, the project explores various styles of folk dance:
- The pizzica, from the Puglia region;
- The tammurriata, with its seven variants from Campania, each linked to a different Madonna;
- The tarantellas from various regions of southern Italy, such as Campania, Calabria, and Puglia.
Participants will experience an immersive journey into the world of music and folk dance of southern Italy, through movement, live rhythms, and narratives that connect these traditions to the history and culture of a land rich in symbolism and profound meanings."
The concert will allow participants to directly experience the typical atmosphere of dance festivals in southern Italy, applying what they have learned in the workshop.
