Prince appointed Philip Lassister as the leader and arranger of the horn section of his New Power Generation. But it wasn’t just Prince who made use of his services. For many artists, from Kirk Franklin to Ariana Grande, from Jill Scott to Al Jarreau and from The Isley Brothers to Queen Latifah, Philip Lassister is the man to go to for trumpet playing and horn arrangements. Lassiter has his roots in Texas funk, Alabama gospel, New Orleans jazz and Nashville soul, and has performed at some of the biggest festivals in the world, like Essence Festival en Montreux Jazz Festival. He has also played on TV shows like Arsenio Hall, Jimmy Kimmel, and Jimmy Fallon. In 2000, Lassiter won the International Trumpet Guild Jazz Solo Competition.
