Mau Senso is a contemporary jazz quintet formed in 2023 in Porto, Portugal. Composed of Pedro Gonçalves (saxophone), Nuno Santos Silva (trumpet), Gonçalo Marques (piano), Xavier Nunes (double bass), and André Pintado (drums), the group explores the fertile territory between composition and improvisation. Their music resists simple classifications, grounding the jazz tradition with avant-garde textures, experimental freedom, and a wide range of influences from European jazz and other regions. The result is a sound that is simultaneously modified and unpretentious—direct yet open, meditative yet provocative.
Each performance is based on collective creation, where individual expression fuels the group's dialogue. Mau Senso's soundscapes oscillate between contemplative and energetic, inviting the listener into a space of movement, emotion, and reflection.
As one of the most stimulating projects to emerge from the Porto jazz scene, Mau Senso offers a bold, authentic, and profoundly human approach to contemporary jazz.
