Presentation of the new album: Spirits Moving

Luís Vicente returns to Hotelier—this time with a quartet—to present Spirits Moving. Joined by saxophonist John Dikeman, drummer Onno Govaert, and bassist Luke Stewart—all seasoned figures on the jazz and improvisation circuit and longtime collaborators of the trumpeter—Vicente delivers another significant chapter in an ever-expanding body of work that shows no signs of slowing down. And a good thing, too. Recorded live in Caldas da Rainha, Spirits Moving is one of Vicente’s most spirited and dynamic albums to date. It stokes the fires of high-energy music across four tracks that range from tempestuous four-voice passages to moments of harmonic and rhythmic deconstruction, all animated by the restless spirits of American pioneers from the 1960s and early 70s—artists whose work defined labels like ESP-Disk and BYG. This is not a matter of mere imitation, but rather an acknowledgment of a history kept alive through the breath of Vicente’s trumpet.
