García de Marina (Gijón, Spain, 1975) is a photographer who uses objects as a means of expression. His careful reflection on these objects and their multiple possibilities for associative connections, whether intentional or accidental, allows him to impute narratives and meanings to his images, placing his work in the creative realm of visual poetry. His series are characterized by a strong emotional charge, balanced compositions, and a refined aesthetic, which at times bring us closer to the world of the subconscious and dreams.
Over the past decade, García de Marina's work has been presented around the world in significant exhibition projects, taking him to travel across all continents. His work has been displayed in museums and institutions of recognized prestige, as well as at some of the major international photography festivals.
Now, for the first time in Portugal, he presents Innocents, which can be considered his most socially engaged series. In a world where we witness the daily advance of armed conflicts, inequalities, and discriminations, Innocents asserts the need to continue defending the values of freedom, justice, and peace. This series investigates the fulfillment of human rights through 51 photographs that convey injustices and suffering, but also evoke hope. In these images, García de Marina uses two glass chess sets, transforming them into a metaphor for the fragility and vulnerability of the human being.
