The exhibition “Afinidades na Cerâmica Contemporânea” opens on 26 July at 4 PM, showcasing a total of 39 original ceramic pieces inspired by Still Life (1645), a painting by Pieter Claesz from the collection of the Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis (MNSR).
This exhibition is part of the second edition of the Afinidades programme, an initiative developed by the MNSR in partnership with the Quarteirão Criativo Association, supported by main sponsor Super Bock Group and the Círculo Dr. José de Figueiredo – Friends of the Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis.
Admission is free, subject to venue capacity.
Curated by Vítor Reis, the 2025 edition offers a contemporary perspective on ceramics. Close to forty pieces were selected for display, authored by artists represented by shops and galleries based in Porto’s Bombarda Quarter.
The creative works submitted to the Afinidades open call will now be on view at the Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis until 29 November, when the winner of this year’s edition will be announced.
Recently awarded an Honourable Mention in the “Partnership” category by the Portuguese Museology Association, the Afinidades programme aims to activate the local community by bringing it closer to the Museum’s identity and daily life, while also encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue and the emergence of innovative artistic practices from Porto’s creative district.
Afinidades is a five-edition cycle with annual themes, composed of exhibitions, workshops and talks that explore moments of connection, empathy and resonance between the creative culture of the Bombarda Quarter and the history and collection of the Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis.
