Much more than just another punk band, Ideal Victim is a fire fueled by fury, grit and nonconformity. Born in Porto in 2022, the quartet proposes a formula that at first glance is unlikely, but which proves to be unique and cohesive: the raw and unyielding energy of British hardcore of the 80s superimpose the hypnotic vibration of surf rock and the nervous tension of rockabilly – erecting a tense and irresistible balance between atmosphere and aggressiveness. In the front line, the fierce and interventional roar of vocalist Mariana stands out, supported by the cadence imposed by the drums and bass and by a guitar that contorts as it drowns in distortion. Ideal Victim belong to a lineage of bands that never asked for permission to exist: from Discharge to Bikini Kill and from The Cramps to the Dead Kennedys, the influences are undeniable, but Ideal Victim refuse to echo them in exercises of nostalgia. His music is urgent, combative, and incredibly topical — a visceral response to the shackles of patriarchy and the open wounds of a rapidly collapsing world. Driven by the impact of the Diary of a Pig demo and by an already considerable shooting on stage, Ideal Victim now present Rage Letters, a debut album that mirrors the band's evolution in a set of six brief songs, but in which nothing is left unsaid, and nothing is left unshouted. With Rage Letters, Ideal Victim launchs us an invitation to insubmission – and we can't help but accept it. — Lovers & Lollypops
