We travel because nothing in the world completely consoles us, no place, no person, no idea, no project. We need to leave our comfort zone. The words of writer Gonçalo M. Tavares add a literary perspective to the temporary exhibition Shared Horizons: Travels and Transformations at the Soares dos Reis National Museum (MNSR).

With Gonçalo M. Tavares as literary curator and Ana Bárbara Barros, José da Costa Reis, and Paula Fortuna Oliveira from the MNSR as scientific curators, the exhibition is structured around three central themes - Objects and Travelers, The Gaze (d)of the Other, and Contaminations - bringing to light more than 230 objects that inhabit the museum's reserves, library, and archive, as well as the Fernando de Castro House Museum.

From a collection that now totals more than 18,000 cultural assets, the MNSR presents just over 1,400 in its long-term exhibition, so Shared Horizons: Travels and Transformations will now allow other priceless objects to be discovered, in a narrative built around the guiding theme of the MNSR's program for 2025: Confluences and Creation.

Free admission for residents of Portugal.
