Moving between laughter and despair, a small world comes to life. Based on Nikolai Gogol’s original text, this performance brings together actors, objects, puppets, and animated objects to reveal the hidden forces driving an anonymous life, lost in a random office/department: loneliness, the longing to be seen, the struggle for a name, for a place, for a new overcoat.

At the point where gesture and inanimate matter intersect, the actor-manipulators share the stage with figurines and puppets that stand up, disintegrate, and are reborn to the emotion-stirring sound of live music, in a constant dialogue between sound, body, and image.

With a strong narrative component and rich visual dramaturgy, Gogol’s words are given physical form through objects and materials in a visual theatre performance where the grotesque becomes tender, and laughter mingles with awe.

Alma d’Arame returns to fimp to bring us its latest creation developed in partnership with O Teatrão de Coimbra, which is making its first appearance at the festival.
