Creating for puppet theatre is as challenging as it is stimulating. Each puppet has its own identity, each show has specific needs, and each creation involves a process of research, experimentation, and dramaturgical development.

In this masterclass, actress and director Micaela Soares and performer-creator Vítor Gomes share their experience in creating puppet theatre shows at the Teatro de Marionetas do Porto, focusing on dramaturgy and construction.

During the session, we will explore what distinguishes writing for conventional theatre from writing for puppet theatre, learn about different creative processes, and analyse examples from the company’s repertoire. During the practical section, participants will be challenged to develop a creative writing exercise, where they will be invited to animate the inanimate and discover how fiction can give rise to stage action.
