On January 22, the Helena Sá e Costa Theater will host one of the most iconic works of the 20th century: “The Soldier's Tale” by Igor Stravinsky and C. F. Ramuz. Presented by ESMAE's Ensemble I&D, under the musical direction of Jan Wierzba and stage direction of Inês Vicente, with Edmilson Gomes taking on the roles of Narrator, Devil, and Soldier.
The work, written in 1918 as an austere traveling show, remains strangely relevant today. The narrative follows a soldier who, on his return from war, makes the mistake of exchanging his violin—his soul—for a book that predicts the future and guarantees wealth. It is a psychological and musical duel where Stravinsky's rhythm dictates the rules of a dangerous game with the Devil.
