Palha Encantada: arqueologia de um espírito esquecido (Enchanted Straw: archaeology of a forgotten spirit) is a performative experiment in which the artist Paulo Pinto searches for ancestral affective references, in the real/fictitious transit suggested by an old Lusitanian rural labour garment.
Present in the rituals of different cultures, the straw is used as a device for re/discoveries triggered by the artist's archive and(m) his deviations of survival.
The creation, the result of an Artist Residency at CAMPUS Paulo Cunha e Silva, Porto City Hall, reveals ongoing research in an attempt to access the memory of his family, originally from the northeastern hinterland (Cariri, Ceará), and was awarded by DGArtes, having circulated in various cultural spaces, such as Mala Voadora, Maus Hábitos - Espaço de Intervenção Cultural (Family Film Project), Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto (FBAUP), Convento Dominicas in Guimarães, Plataforma Revólver - Independent Art Space in Lisbon, the Santo Tirso International Museum of Contemporary Sculpture and the Cerveira International Art Biennial in Vila Nova de Cerveira.
