In this workshop, we explore the technique of weaving using paper. This choice allows participants to understand the construction of textile structures more quickly than with threads, making the learning process more dynamic. It is a hands-on activity that requires attention and gradually reveals the logic behind any fabric.
Integrated into the theme Artistic Crossings at the Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis, this workshop focuses on the debuxo — the way the strips intersect to form patterns. Learning the fundamental structures (plain weave, twill, and satin) provides new tools to observe the Museum’s collections, allowing participants to recognize the order and rhythm present in the displayed pieces.
Using basic drawings as a starting point, each participant can personalize their composition through the choice and alternation of colors. In the end, the result is a paper weaving that combines traditional know-how with a personal interpretation.
