Unruhe

Carlos Pereira
Fiction, Experimental: 12’ / Queer, Utopia

There’s been a strange epidemic lately going amongst the folk, so that many in their madness began dancing, which they kept up day and night, without interruption, until they fell unconscious. Many have died of it.

Of Love and Folklore

Miguel De
Fiction: 18’ / Romance, Homophobia, Gay, Avantgarde

“When I look at my love, he looks at the boy in front of him, but we only see each other's backs. Never the face. Because we're not all dancing together. We're in pairs. And in this dance, my love doesn't exist. I drag him into it, but only his back. And it was his back that I fell in love with. His broad back, dressed in the most beautiful costume in the world, which is all the costumes he wore.”

Abril, Helena’s Daughter

Maria Moreira, Victor Hugooli
Documentary: 20’ / Trans, Family, Bodies

In a new daily life, Abril, a trans woman, chooses her mother, Helena, as her primary caregiver for a facial feminization surgery. With maternal gestures, Helena cares for Abril with the same gaze she had when her daughter was little.

The Cowgirl, the Showgirl and the Pig

Stella Carneiro, Ary Zara
Fiction: 10’ / Comedy, Lesbian

A trans cowgirl enters the bar where her lover, a black showgirl, works under the rules of a bloodthirsty truffle-lover pig. But what begins as an escape in the name of love turns into a surreal western showdown of blood, sisterhood, and resilience.

We Were just Brats

João Nunes Monteiro
Fiction: 19’ / Coming of Age, Friendship, Youth

At a summer camp in 2007, João meets Ivo. The two teenagers share a dormitory and musical tastes, as well as feelings that swing between a desire to come closer and a fear of being seen.

Filmmaker Miguel De (O Meu Amor do Rancho), filmmakers Maria Moreira and Victor Hugooli, as well as protagonists Abril Xavier and Helena Costa (Abril de Helena) will attend and join us for a post-screening Q&A.
