The Casa da Música Choir explores Johann Sebastian Bach's legacy as a pillar of Western music, in continuous dialogue across the centuries. The program illustrates this rich exchange of influences: Bach himself looks to his past, quoting the Renaissance composer Palestrina, and projects himself into the future, echoing composers from the most diverse geographies. Villa-Lobos stands out here, who in his Bachianas Brasileiras No. 9 constructs a prelude and fugue with tropical colors. The program continues with the contemporary lightness of Arvo Pärt, who also crosses the ocean to evoke the Virgin of Guadalupe, and Knut Nystedt's tribute, demonstrating the enduring vitality of Bach's musical universe.
