Porto-based sextet formed by Eduardo Carneiro Dias (drums), Xavier Nunes (electric bass), João Pedro Dias (trumpet), Fábio Gil (saxophone), José Pedrosa (keyboards) and Fábio Mota (percussion), Barananu promotes a distinctive blend of jazz, disco and progressive rock within a collective approach to improvisation. With influences ranging from local projects such as Sensible Soccers and Bardino to international names like BadBadNotGood, Boards of Canada or Kamasi Washington, the band released their debut album, FUNGHI, last year on Jazzego Records, and is a fresh and stimulating voice on the Portuguese jazz scene.
