What if a landscape could tell its own story? That is the question behind the encounter proposed by Bianca Dacosta, an artist born in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro: a conversation about the research and creative process of her artistic residency at Casa da Música, in partnership with O Instituto.
Part of the Floresta Amazónica – Girando Mundos festival programme in November, this talk opens the studio doors and shares what usually stays hidden: the doubts, the detours, the discoveries and the gestures that give shape to a work. Moving between film, photography, installation and sculpture, Bianca’s practice travels as freely as memory crosses territories.
Working with natural, scientific and symbolic materials, the artist brings together images of a threatened nature in the Anthropocene era, fanciful representations of colonised lands and organic forms. From these encounters emerge spaces of projection and imagination, where forms of domination can be questioned and other ways of inhabiting the world, and of relating to everything around us, human and more-than-human, can be explored.
An invitation to listen, ask and imagine, together, other possible worlds.
