Barlovento Sur is a group dedicated to promoting Latin American music in the European cultural scene. Based in Geneva, the members are from Chile, Argentina, and Portugal, bringing music born from an spontaneous fusion of the traditional rhythms of South America with the sounds of contemporary music.
Founded in 2015 by Josefa Ibarra (vocals and bombo) and Jorge Pacheco (vocals and guitar), the project grew and evolved into a quartet with the addition of violinist Luisina Rábago and cellist Beatriz Raimundo. Immersed in the aesthetics of new Latin folk, the group blends the pulse of traditional percussion with open harmonies, intertwining the lyricism of strings with the strength of voices that sing about our shared history and the future they envision for the world.
