“Fábrica de Ossos” is the first solo exhibition by Austrian artist Andreas Fogarasi in Portugal.
Andreas Fogarasi (b. 1977, Vienna) works with installation, sculpture, video and photography, exploring modes of display and processes of representation. His practice critically examines how places, political ideas and historical events are transformed into images, questioning the role of culture—art, architecture and design—in the symbolic construction of urban space and in the culturalisation of the economy. Formally influenced by Minimal and Conceptual Art, his work combines documentary strategies with a sculptural language of strong architectural character.
Fogarasi was awarded the Golden Lion at the 52nd Venice Biennale (2007) and the Otto Mauer Prize (2016).
His work has been widely presented in solo and group exhibitions at international institutions, including Kunsthalle Wien, Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid), New Museum (New York), MUMOK – Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien, MAK Center for Art and Architecture (Los Angeles), Museum Haus Konstruktiv (Zurich), Ludwig Forum (Aachen), Museo Tamayo (Mexico City), Palais de Tokyo (Paris), GfZK – Museum of Contemporary Art (Leipzig), CAC Vilnius, Museum of Contemporary Art (Zagreb) and the Times Museum (Guangzhou), among others.
