A day to celebrate, care, create and share!
How can we continue to care for a space that belongs to us all? And how can we celebrate the relationships, experiences and ideas that have come to life here?
Session #33 marks the closing of Cultivar a Proximidade with a day of gathering at Lavadouros das Fontaínhas, bringing together participants, artists, partners and the local community to celebrate the journey undertaken throughout the project. Through practices of care, artistic experiences, shared meals, music and memories, this celebration invites us to look back on the work carried out and acknowledge the relationships that have been built around this space.
Throughout the day, Lavadouros will become a stage for different ways of engaging with and experimenting in this space!
Maintenance activities for the interventions developed as part of the project — in the washhouse basin, with Landra – Sara Rodrigues and Rodrigo Camacho, and on the triangular shade sails, with Rita Faustino from Oficina Josefina — invite the community to take part in the ongoing care of the elements created.
More than simply preserving the results achieved, these activities aim to highlight that transforming a public space does not end with the initial intervention: it continues through the attention, use and commitment of those who visit and inhabit it.
The programme makes room for experimentation and collective creation, with the Musical Vegetables workshop, led by Minus & MRDolly, and a jam session bringing participants together through musical improvisation.
In between these activities, an extended lunch, with Momonimo – Mónica Esteves, will extend the experience of togetherness, celebrating the table as a place for gathering, exchanging experiences and building closer connections.
The programme also includes the public screening of a video documentary produced by João Paulo Abreu, inviting us to revisit the journey of Cultivar a Proximidade through memories, experiences and the outcomes of the work developed.
The celebration continues through food and music, with refreshments provided by the local café Azul e Branco and an evening dedicated to the Fados das Fontaínhas.
Featuring the voices of Carlos Nelson, Luísa Nascimento, Felicidade Carreira and Belmiro Dias, accompanied by Augusto Mandim on Portuguese guitar and Cândido Martins on the viola de fado, and presented by Júlio Loureiro, the celebration will end with an encounter with music and tradition, deeply rooted in the cultural identity of this area.
Bringing together care, artistic creation, knowledge-sharing, memory and celebration, this session combines different dimensions of the project in a programme open to the participation of the community. More than marking the end of a cycle of activities, the closing celebration seeks to carry forward what has been built together, recognising that the vitality of a shared space depends on the relationships established within it and on the willingness to continue inhabiting it.
Lavadouros das Fontaínhas thus stands as a place of encounter and possibility, where everyday practices, artistic expressions and shared knowledge can coexist and give rise to new forms of community engagement with the space.
The closing of Cultivar a Proximidade therefore becomes an opportunity to celebrate the journey so far and make room for new relationships, initiatives and ways of caring for this place we share.
