The North Regional Chapter of Ordem dos Arquitectos hosts a unique exhibition in Portugal revisiting the iconic Manplan series (1969–1970), published by The Architectural Review, which profoundly shaped the visual representation of architecture, planning, and society.
The exhibition is a result of an international partnership between the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Cityscopio – Cultural Association (Scopio Editions), and CSNP/FAUP – Center for Studies Nuno Portas at Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto, through the Architecture, Art and Image (AAI) research group and the Sophia Journal international conference project.
“Wide-Angle View” presents a selection of original images and materials that highlight the innovative and critical nature of the Manplan project, led by Hubert de Cronin Hastings and editor Tim Rock, who, in the late 1960s, sought to expose the gap between the ideals of modern architecture and the reality experienced by populations. The series, produced with photographers from photojournalism, placed the human being at the center of architectural representation—a radical approach that remains profoundly relevant today.
The opening will include a guided tour, in english, by Valeria Carullo, Photographs Curator at RIBA.
Until May 22, it will be possible to visit the exhibition, which will include a parallel program of guided tours, public talks, and educational activities.
Free admission.
Supported by: Câmara Municipal do Porto, Ageas Seguros and Tintas CIN
